The attempt to create a national Holocaust memorial in Canada has been beset by a variety of challenges arising from shifts in public perception of the Holocaust and its significance. This article provides a brief history of this protracted process, beginning with the 1997–98 controversy over inclusion of a Holocaust gallery in a renovated War Museum and the promise that some kind of stand-alone Holocaust memorial would be built elsewhere, through the years of negotiations over the content of a new Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), which was initially conceived as a Holocaust museum. A key focus of this study is the lobbying effort by some Ukrainian Canadian leaders and their allies to remove the stand-alone Holocaust gallery from the CMHR. Despite these protests, the CMHR finally opened in September 2014 with the Holocaust gallery the government had originally promised in 1998.

This article explores the activities of the United States Committee for the Care of European Children (USCOM), a non-sectarian rescue organization that operated throughout World War II. USCOM managed to bring to the US a total of approximately 1,300 children—both Jewish and non-Jewish—in two separate operations: the first from Britain in 1940, and the second from concentration camps in southern France between 1941 and 1944. In its effort to find suitable host families for the children in the United States, the committee cooperated mainly with Jewish organizations.

This research note brings to light important primary sources on Babi Yar: two testimonies written for the NKVD in 1941 by non-Jewish Soviet citizens who had spent time in occupied Kiev. Although problematic in various ways, these testimonies offer details not found elsewhere about the murder of Kiev's Jews. The research note also traces how subsequent NKVD reports and Soviet press articles used the two documents. This close examination reveals editorial cuts, additions, and other changes—and, in one case, a lack of concern with accuracy even when the NKVD passed on the information in a classified report for Stalin.

Although most leading Nazis realized that The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was a spurious document, they found it useful in promoting belief in the international Jewish conspiracy of which they were already convinced. Authorship and other details were irrelevant, they averred, if the book expressed "inner truth."
