<span class="paragraphSection">BAER, Nicholas, MA, b. 1985 in Nashville, TN, USA. PhD candidate in Film & Media at the University of California, Berkeley, with a Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory. His dissertation, ‘Absolute Relativity: Weimar Cinema and the Crisis of Historicism’, focuses on the intersection between film and the philosophy of history in interwar Germany. Together with Anton Kaes and Michael Cowan, he is also currently co-editing <span style="font-style:italic;">The Promise of Cinema: German Film Theory, 1907–1933</span> for the University of California Press. Baer’s research has been supported through year-long fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German-American Fulbright Commission, and the Leo Baeck Institute/Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.</span>
