Call for Papers
Photographs appear in an abundance of forms – as negatives, copies, project, in exhibitions, in magazines and photo books. What distinguishes these manifold forms of materialisation and mediatisation of photography from one another? What are their core specifics, to what extent do they interlock? Who are the decisive actors in the actualisation of these individual forms? What precisely are the areas of change, and in what ways has change taken place? What are the innovations digitalisation brought to the mostly complex constellations of image producers and recipients? And what are the consequences of the recent interest in photo books for exhibitions of the same images?
In 2015, the Research Seminar on the History and Theory of Photography will be dedicated to studying the materialisations and mediatisations of photography in all of its contexts of production and reception. The five-day event will provide 15 PhD candidates and Post-Docs with an opportunity to present their research, seminars, discussion panels, visits to eminent collections, exchange with curators and artists.
We welcome applications by any PhD candidates and Post-Docs working on this subject. Applications should include a research summary (up to 3,000 characters) as well as a CV and should be submitted to berg@fotomarburg.de by April 7, 2015.
The conference languages are German and English. The grant will cover preparatory material, accommodation, and a travel allowance.
