Neues FRIAS Fellowship-Programm 2024/25 startet

Bis zum 15. September 2023 können sich Forschende aller Nationalitäten und Disziplinen für die FRIAS Early Career und Senior Fellowship-Programme 2024/25 bewerben. Außerdem stärkt das FRIAS mit einem Fellowship für Forschende aus Afrika den Austausch mit dem Globalen Süden.

Neues FRIAS Fellowship Programm 2024/25 startet

Etwa 40 bis 50 Wissenschaftler:innen aller Nationen und Disziplinen kommen jedes Jahr als Fellows für mehrere Monate ans Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, um an ihren Forschungsprojekten zu arbeiten und sich mit Kolleg:innen aus aller Welt zu vernetzen. Ein Fellowship am FRIAS (Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies) gilt aufgrund des kompetitiven und streng leistungsorientierten Auswahlverfahrens als besondere Auszeichnung.

Für das Akademische Jahr 2024/25 (September 2024 bis August 2025) bietet das FRIAS vier- bis zehnmonatige Fellowships für promovierte Wissenschaftler:innen mit bis zu acht Jahren Forschungserfahrung (Early Career Fellowships) und drei- bis zehnmonatige Fellowships für promovierte und habilitierte Wissenschaftler:innen mit mehr als acht Jahren Forschungserfahrung (Senior Fellowships). Außerdem setzt es mit dem FRIAS Sustainable Governance Fellowship for Researchers from Africa ein Programm zur Stärkung des Austauschs mit dem Globalen Süden auf. Bewerben können sich hierfür Forscher:innen aus den Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften an Institutionen in afrikanischen Ländern.

With the generous support of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the German Historical Institute (GHI) and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at the George Mason University (RRCHNM) invite applications from postdoctoral scholars and advanced doctoral students based in Europe for a 12-month fellowship in digital history

This fellowship aims to connect scholars from Europe to digital history in the United States. The fellowship is intended to support a junior scholar working in the field of digital history or a junior scholar with less experience in digital history but interested in learning new research methods. We welcome applications from scholars who are seeking seed-funding in order to develop an innovative idea into a new project and/or funding proposal as well as from scholars who wish to pursue fully-fledged research projects.

The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for the recipient to work on his or her research project at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM) at George Mason University (GMU), one of the most established centers for digital history in the United States with strengths in computational history, spatial history and GIS, public digital history and other methods. The fellow will be in residence for one year. While at the Center, the fellow will also have the opportunity to consult with the RRCHNM’s faculty and staff in order to develop his or her project, join teams working on projects in development at RRCHNM, and to sit in on graduate digital history classes at GMU. Depending upon qualifications and visa status, the fellow could teach or co-teach undergraduate courses involving digital history.

Im Rahmen der vom Land Rheinland-Pfalz geförderten Forschungsinitiative sind am Trier Center for Digital Humanities (TCDH / Kompetenzzentrum für elektronische Erschließungs- und Publikationsverfahren in den Geisteswissenschaften) zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt mehrere

Fellowships für Doktoranden und Postdoktoranden

mit einer Laufzeit von jeweils 6-12 Monaten zu vergeben, je nach Bedarf des vorgeschlagenen Projekts. Die Fellowships sind mit dem Vorhaben „Mining and Modeling Text: Interdisziplinäre Anwendungen, informatische Weiterentwicklung, rechtliche Perspektiven” (MiMoText) verbunden.

Das Trierer Kompetenzzentrum hat sich seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 1998 zu einem national und international etablierten Zentrum für Digital Humanities entwickelt. Sein Ziel ist es, durch die (Weiter-)Entwicklung und Anwendung innovativer informatischer Methoden und Verfahren geistes- und kulturwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen zu bearbeiten, neue Forschungsansätze in diesen Fachdisziplinen zu entwickeln und gleichzeitig zur Ausbildung neuer Forschungsfelder und Methodologien in den informatiknahen Fächern beizutragen. Das Zentrum forscht schwerpunktmäßig in den Bereichen Digitale Wörterbücher, Digitale Edition, Forschungssoftware und quantitative Analyse.

Ziel des Projektes „MiMoText“ ist es, den Bereich der quantitativen Methoden zur Extraktion, Modellierung und Analyse geisteswissenschaftlich relevanter Informationen aus umfangreichen Textsammlungen konsequent weiterzuentwickeln und aus interdisziplinärer (geistes-, informatik- und rechtswissenschaftlicher) Perspektive zu erforschen.

The fellowship will provide a unique opportunity for the recipient to work on his or her research project at RRCHNM, where she/he will be in residence for one year. We welcome applications from scholars who are seeking seed-funding in order to develop a thrilling idea into a new project and/or funding proposal as well as from scholars who wish to pursue fully-fledged research projects. While at the Center, the fellow will also have the opportunity to consult with the Center’s faculty and staff in order to develop the skills needed for his or her project, join teams working on projects in development at RRCHNM, and to sit in on graduate digital history classes at GMU. Depending upon qualifications and visa status, the fellow could teach or co-teach undergraduate courses involving digital history.

Starting at the beginning of the 2019 GMU fall semester, the successful applicant will be in residence at the RRCHNM and will also participate in GHI activities, events, and digital projects. Funding will be provided for a 12-month stay for postdoctoral scholars as well as advanced doctoral students, who are currently affiliated with a European research institution. The monthly stipend will be €3,400 for postdoctoral scholars or €2,000 for doctoral students.

Over the last few years there has been a stunning growth of new and exciting digital tools and methods that have the potential to augment and revolutionize traditional historical research. Historians have turned to data mining, GIS, and social network analysis—to name just a few new digital tools—to analyze source material in innovative ways and to provide unique insights for their research. Scholars increasingly need to develop their own familiarly and facility with these new digital tools and approaches in order to take advantage of their potential for their research. As a means to build out that capacity, this fellowship is intended scholars who are perhaps new to digital history but are interested in developing new skills and methods that could aid their research as well as to support junior scholars already working in the field of digital history. Additionally, the fellowship aims to connect scholars from Europe to the digital history landscape in the United States.

DARIAH-DE Ausschreibung: Fünf Fellowships für (digitale) GeisteswissenschaftlerInnen.

Im Rahmen der DH-Nachwuchsförderung sollen über die Ausschreibung von fünf DARIAH-DE Fellowships innovative sowie individuelle Ansätze und Projekte in den digitalen Geisteswissenschaften gefördert werden. Die Ausschreibung läuft bis zum 30.09.14!

Das Programm richtet sich an DoktorandInnen/PostDocs aus den Feldern den Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften, den Informationswissenschaften oder der Informatik, die sich im Rahmen ihrer Qualifikationsarbeiten mit einem Digital Humanities-Forschungsthema beschäftigen. Dabei soll besonders die Anfangskonzeption der Qualifikationsrbeit oder die Abschlussphase unterstützt werden.

Die insgesamt fünf geförderten Personen forschen in einem Zeitraum von drei bis sechs Monaten in Forschungsfeldern der Digital Humanities, mit Unterstützung aus den Forschungsclustern des DARIAH-Programms. Die durchgeführte Forschung und deren Fortentwicklung, eine Vernetzung verschiedener geistes- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Fachdisziplinen, die Förderung des Austausches von Ressourcen, Methoden bzw. Forschungsdaten und Erfahrungen durch den Aufbau einer digitalen Forschungsinfrastruktur sollte in den Forschungsvorhaben eine besondere Rolle spielen.

Die BewerberInnen sollten ein eigenständiges Forschungsprojekt einreichen, das an einen der folgenden Forschungsschwerpunkte von DARIAH-DE anknüpfungsfähig ist:

Wissenschaftliche Begleitforschung
elektronische Infrastrukturen
Wissenschaftliche Sammlungen
Big Data in den Geisteswissenschaften
Fachwissenschaftliche Annotationen

Über die Auswahl der Fellows entscheidet bis 30. November 2014 eine Jury, die sich aus Vertretern des Exekutivkomitees sowie des wissenschaftlichen Beirats von DARIAH-DE und aus Experten aus den Feldern Open Science und Open Data zusammensetzt.

Die erfolgreichen Bewerber erhalten für den beantragten Zeitraum (3 bis 6 Monate) eine 50% TV-L E13 Anstellung. Neben der kontinuierlichen Fortführung der Qualifikationsarbeit ist eine aktive Teilnahme an den Aktivitäten des Clusters sowie der Plattform DARIAH-DE und den DARIAH-DE Veranstaltungen erwünscht. Nach Ende der Fellowships sind die erreichten Ziele in einem Bericht (max. 5 Seiten) zu dokumentieren.
