Die 7. Jahrestagung des Verbands „Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum e.V.“ wird vom 02. bis 06. März 2020 an der Universität Paderborn unter dem Thema „Spielräume – Digital Humanities zwischen Modellierung und Interpretation“ stattfinden. Wir bitten um Einreichungen von Abstracts in den Kategorien „Vortrag“, „Panel“, „Poster“ und „Workshop“ via Conftool. Die Einreichungsfrist endet am 16. September 2019.

Die Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB Göttingen) ist die zentrale Universitätsbibliothek der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Sie ist eine der größten wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Deutschlands und nimmt in der Literaturversorgung vielfältige überregionale Aufgaben wahr. In nationalen und internationalen Kooperationen werden unter anderem digitale Forschungsinfrastrukturen, kollaborative Forschungsumgebungen und unterschiedliche Aspekte des Forschungsdatenmanagements erforscht und entwickelt.

Die Abteilung Forschung und Entwicklung der SUB Göttingen versteht sich als Bindeglied zwischen Bibliothek und Forschung und unterstützt natur- und geisteswissenschaftliche Disziplinen mit digitalen Methoden und Werkzeugen. Sie ist an nationalen und internationalen, vorwiegend drittmittelgeförderten Projekten beteiligt, um sowohl fachspezifische als auch interdisziplinäre Anwendungen für die Forschung zu entwickeln, neue Forschungsmethoden voranzubringen, informationswissenschaftliche Fragestellungen zu erforschen und Infrastrukturen und Services aufzubauen. Die Abteilung wird von einem vierköpfigen Team geleitet und hat zurzeit rund 30 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter, die in 14 Drittmittelprojekten beschäftigt sind.

Zur Verstärkung unseres Teams suchen wir zum nächst möglichen Zeitpunkt

eine Mitarbeiterin / einen Mitarbeiter (w/m/d) E 14 TV-L, Vollzeit, als stellvertretende Abteilungsleitung der Abteilung Forschung & Entwicklung und Leitung eines eigenen Forschungsbereichs

mit einer regelmäßigen Arbeitszeit von 39,8 Wochenstunden.

Call for Short Papers: Round Table Visualizing Hypotheses: Practical Handling of Uncertainty in Digital 3D Models at CHNT 2019 (November 4-6, 2019)

The call for papers for the 24th conference on Cultural Heritage and New Technologies (CHNT 24), taking place on November 4-6, 2019 in Vienna, is now open.

Short presentations of 10 minutes are welcome for the round table Visualizing Hypotheses: Practical Handling of Uncertainty in Digital 3D Models, which is organized by Christiane Clados (University of Marburg) and Heike Messemer (Universität Würzburg, Urban History 4D) as members of the working group “AG Digitale Rekonstruktion”.

The aim of this round table is to bring together scholars from different disciplines to discuss how hypotheses and uncertainties are visualized in scientific 3D reconstructions and how this can be handled in the future:

Digital 3D reconstructions of cultural artefacts, historical characters and architecture contribute to a better understanding of cultural heritage. In the broad user community, experts from various fields such as architecture, archaeology, art history, palaeontology, forensic anthropology, museology generate 3D reconstructions in order to gain insights into no longer existing evidence. Therefore, such reconstructions are a critical tool for the “translation” of scientific data into visualizations, which make these accessible to the expert community and the general public.

However, due to knowledge gaps within the diverse set of underlying sources, uncertainties are part of nearly all digital models.

CIPA Workshop on Research and Education in Urban History in the Age of Digital Libraries 2019 in Dresden

The CIPA Workshop on Research and Education in Urban History in the Age of Digital Libraries takes place on October 10-11, 2019 at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden, Germany. It is co-located with the Time Machine Conference 2019. The workshop is an international event for the professionals of multiple disciplines and scholars working in the Digital Cultural Heritage domain. The aim of the workshop is to bring together experts, stakeholders and researchers from the cultural domain, starting a dialogue that will lay out the foundation for the creation of a multidisciplinary community of practice.

Urban history, drawing on architectural heritage and cultural history, is one of the key areas in digital humanities. Regarding to that research interest, digital libraries play an important role, especially for visual media like photographs, paintings, or drawings, but also for physical and digital 3D models. Due to the wide field of possible research, different approaches, methods and technologies have emerged – and are still emerging. We aim to discuss crucial challenges for further research and encourage debate on the state of the art and future work. We would like to invite contributions on theoretical and methodological issues, application scenarios and projects, as well as novel approaches and tools.
