DH2024 Mini-Konferenz „DH Inside Out“

Der Fokus vieler wissenschaftlicher Veranstaltung in den Digital Humanities liegt auf den zugrundeliegenden Fragen aus den jeweiligen Fachdisziplinen. Die technischen Rahmenbedingungen und Lösungsansätze zum Beispiel bei der Datensammlung und Bereinigung oder der Visualisierung von Ergebnissen treten meist in den Hintergrund.

Die ADHO Special Interest Group DHTech möchte auf der nächsten großen DH-Konferenz, der DH2024 in Washington, D.C., dieses Format umdrehen und veranstaltet dafür im Vorprogramm der Haupt-Konferenz eine Mini-Konferenz zum Thema „DH Inside Out“.

Gefragt sind Beitrage zu den Themen Implementierung und Design, Erfahrungsaustausch für technische Lösungsansätze, Tool-Demonstrationen, und andere Themen die für die technische DH-Community von Interesse sein können.

Neben normalen Präsentationen mit einem 20 Minuten-Format können auch Software-Demonstrationen eingereicht werden, die neben dem Vorführen der Software auch eine erweiterte Diskussion mit den Teilnehmern erlauben.

Seit 2021 bin ich wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und arbeite als Entwicklerin in der Abteilung TELOTA (The Electronic Life Of The Academy) an digitalen Editionen. Im Rahmen des DFG-Projekts „Der deutsche Brief im 18. Jahrhundert“ entwickle ich u. a. die Suchfunktionen von correspSearch weiter.

The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations Annual Conference (ADHO) in Graz was an enlightening experience for me. I had the privilege of presenting our collaborative project, „Magnetic Margins: A Census and Reader Annotations Database,“ alongside my colleagues, Alessandro Adamou (Digital Humanities Lab at the Bibliotheca Hertziana, Rome) and Hassan el Hajj (Research IT at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin). Our panel was thoughtfully curated and expertly moderated, making our participation all the more rewarding.

While Alessandro was present in Graz, Hassan and I participated online as I was located in the US at the time and traveling all the way to Graz seemed somewhat over the top. I nevertheless applied for one of the ADHO’s travel grants, but  in order to be reimbursed only for the conference fees – EUR 165 instead of up to EUR 850, being the regular lump sum for travel costs.

Second Call for volunteers: ADHO Anti-Racism Task Force

Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) is extending its call for participants in a new Anti-Racism Task Force. We have received a number of expressions of interest and are hoping to receive a few more before forming the Task Force. We have made an important change this new call: all members of the Task Force will have the opportunity to receive a one-time 500 Euro honorarium.

The deadline to express interest is now 15 March 2022.

DHd tritt ADHO als konstituierende Organisation bei

Die Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) freut sich, dass der Verband Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum (DHd) als konstituierende Organisation beigetreten ist.

Die gemeinsamen Ziele von ADHO und DHd haben eine lange Geschichte: Der DHd-Verband wurde am 7. Juli 2012 in Hamburg während der ADHO Digital Humanities Konferenz gegründet. Mit seinen mehr als 400 Mitgliedern und 12 Arbeitsgruppen, Stand  Januar 2021, möchte der DHd eine formale Interessengemeinschaft sein, die Forschung und Lehre im Bereich der Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum unterstützt.

Der DHd-Verband unterstützt die Open Access Zeitschrift „Zeitschrift für digitale Geisteswissenschaften“ (ZfdG), setzt sich für die Digital Humanities ein (z.B. gegenüber der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft / DFG) und vertritt die Digital Humanities innerhalb der Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI). Mit einer jährlich stattfindenden Konferenz mit stetig wachsender Teilnehmerzahl fördert der DHd-Verband die Forschung, Lehre und Infrastruktur der Digital Humanities in Österreich, Deutschland, der Schweiz und darüber hinaus.
