Der Senat der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) hat im März 2018 die Einrichtung des Schwerpunktprogramms „Computational Literary Studies“ (SPP 2207) beschlossen. Als Laufzeit sind sechs Jahre vorgesehen. Die DFG lädt hiermit ein zur Antragstellung für die zweite dreijährige Förderperiode.

Mit „Computational Literary Studies“ bezeichnet man die quantitative und formale qualitative Analyse literarischer Texte. Das Schwerpunktprogramm zielt darauf, die weitere Entwicklung solcher datenzentrierten Forschungsansätze in den Literaturwissenschaften zu fördern. Folgende Forschungsschwerpunkte stehen im Fokus:

with a degree in either information technology or a subject in the field of humanities and experience working on projects at the intersection of the humanities and information technology.

FRONTEND WEB DEVELOPER, VUE.JS/REACT (F/M/D)

The many faces of Shame –
A Global Inclusive Interdisciplinary Conference

Across cultures and historical eras, shame has been used in the service of advancing ideologies, beliefs and customs. We may like to think we have progressed beyond the days of sentencing wrongdoers to be placed in stocks in the public square for ritualised humiliation at the hands of the public. Nevertheless there are those who have rediscovered the ‘use’ of shame in modern societies. Retributive punishment is being revisited, whilst online shaming, slut-shaming, fat-shaming are but a few examples of how the use of shame to compel, or discourage, particular behaviour continues to thrive in contemporary society. For shame to be effective, it is necessary for individuals to fear public scrutiny and negative judgement. There must also be sufficient consensus around the beliefs and practices that are deemed ‘good’ and those that are deemed to be ‘bad’ to provide a framework in which shame operates as a regulatory mechanism.

Die DHd-AG Zeitungen & Zeitschriften (https://dhd-ag-zz.github.io/) bietet am 11. und 12. November 2021 jeweils von 9:00-13:00 Uhr einen virtuellen Workshop an, um anhand digitaler Zeitungs- und Zeitschriftenbestände zu zeigen, wie die für viele Forschende notwendige, individuelle Korpusbildung in Zeitungsportalen selbst sowie mittels NLP-Methoden unterstützt werden kann.

Geisteswissenschaftliche Forschung basiert häufig auf themenspezifischen Forschungsfragen, weshalb die Korpusbildung einen wesentlichen Aspekt in der Arbeit mit digitalen Quellen einnimmt. Solche Korpora müssen jedoch nicht selten in zeitaufwändigen und komplexen Prozessen erstellt werden, weil Suchstrategien nicht ausreichen oder weil fehlende Layout- Segmentierung den Zugriff erschwert. Insbesondere bei retro-digitalisierten Zeitungen hängt die Korpusbildung stark von der Qualität der Digitalisate (OCR und Artikelsegmentierung) ab.
